Republicans now turn to Obama

Easter is the time when we recognize that winter will come to an end. There will come the seasonal renewal of the Earth. Our days will lengthen and our nights will be warmer and we will eat fresh tomatoes from our own gardens. But something else is apparent this week. America itself seems to be up for a rebirth.

Barack Obama gave a speech last week that caused America to stop and think about itself. To look at what we have become...And we don't seem to like ourselves. That was Obama's Reverend's transgression...he said nothing that wasn't true (barring mentioning the conspiracy that Aids is a government plot...Way out there, that one). No, Reverend Wright's transgression was that he mostly told the truth about us and we, as a nation, "Can't Handle the Truth!"

Someone very close to me did time in a rehab facility for alcohol abuse. He needed it badly. In talking about it much later, he said that most of the "12 steps" are bullshit and meaningless but not all. The hardest step, he thought, was one that required "Ruthless Self Examination."

You have to stop and look at what you've become...You have to quit lying to yourself that everything is fine and everybody loves the way you act.

Now it is America's turn to take steps.

Quit lying to yourself, America. Reverend Wright is being villainized for pointing out that we aren't perfect. We have, in so many ways, earned the distrust of the world. It is more than just difficult, it is gut wrenching but we must now engage in "Ruthless Self Examination" or forever lose our country to the most malignant form of government that marries totalitarianism with Corporatism...Fascism. As Americans, we cannot let this happen, whether we are Republican or Democratic. We seem to be ready to face the truth and Barrack Hussein Obama is ready to lead us...All of us.

What gives me hope is that loyal Republican operatives are coming to the realization that Conservatism has failed and shown itself to be merely a stepping stone to fascism and unworthy of standing as a governing philosophy. It is time for America to return to being the Progressive nation spelled out in its Constitution and Bill of Rights. Principled Republicans recognize this. Here is one of them...

Today I endorse Barack Obama for president of the United States. I believe him to be a person of integrity, intelligence and genuine good will. I take him at his word that he wants to move the nation beyond its religious and racial divides and to return United States to that company of nations committed to human rights...

...as Republicans, we are first Americans. As Americans, we must voice our concerns for the well-being of our nation without partisanship when decisions that have been made endanger the body politic. Our president has involved our nation in a military
engagement without sufficient justification or clear objective. In so doing, he has incurred both tragic loss of life and extraordinary debt jeopardizing the economy and the well-being of the average American citizen. In pursuit of these fatally flawed purposes, the office of the presidency, which it was once my privilege to defend in public office formally, has been distorted beyond its constitutional assignment.

Douglas W. Kmiec ...
Head of the Office of Legal Counsel (U.S. Assistant Attorney General) for
Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

His complete statement bears reading, hopefully by Republicans.

Peace,

Steve

  1. Obama tried to change the subject in order to get the media to move on. It has been in the campaign play book from the inception and he made a tactical error in rolling it out now. The issue was not and is not race, it is a seething and virulent blame America mentality. I don't know what church you belong to, but my pastor would not have survived the day before being fired had he made the remarks and gestures Dr. Wright made from the pulpit, in front of my children. Further, Michelle Obama's statements and the Obama's self described "friendly association" with the terrorist William Ayers leaves little doubt that they have some profound hatred for America.

Not only did Dr. Wright spew that nonsense, the congregation of Trinity United shouted their concurrence. It is hard to fathom that the Obama's didn't routinely sit through such sermons and at least say amen! Moreover, Dr. Wright is Obama's self-admitted mentor for more than 20 plus years. He officiated the marriage of Obama and his wife and baptized their children.

Then there is the Black liberation theology that TU espouses. It is a pan African marxist construct with just enough Jesus to call it a church and not a political organization. It was promulgated by Dr. James Cone, Dr. Wright's mentor. Any organization whose premise for existence is the advancement of the materialism dialectic is going to be anti-American by definition because America is the center of world capitalism.

Want more? Then there's the issue of his grandmother. I could not form my mouth to say anything negative about my grandmother, especially to advance my own selfish personal ambitions. He didn't mention his grandmother or any other family member as a source of encouragement or inspiration, he used her to illustrate what he believes are America's ills. I don't know what version of the bible they refer to at TU but the 5th commandment in my bible states "Honor thy father and thy mother..." Then he keeps the narrative going by saying that his grandmother is a typical white person?

Senator Obama and Hillary Clinton share a common intellectual bond in Saul Alinsky. He was a marxist organizer in Chicago whose tactics were legend. He was ruthless and sought power for its own sake. He wrote two books that codified his tactics and laws of organizing. It was clear with Hillary and now all the more with Obama. He will do and say anything to get what he wants, even at the expense of his own family.

I have transitioned from thinking of Obama as a seemingly nice person with whom I had some serious policy and philosophical differences to thinking that he is a person of deeply flawed character. I know that I'm not the only one either.

  2. Well, Craig, I guess we now know what message wingnuts are receiving in their emails and ordered to cut and paste anytime someone tries to bring rational thought to the electoral discourse.

Could you take a reality pill before you post next time?

I think you threw out every code name word in the book with absolutely no evidence backing a single one.

You even managed to link Hillary and Obama with nonsense.

I knew this election cycle would bring out the crazies.
